What is a Silo Venting Filter?

Posted on April 27, 2025

A silo top filter (also known as a silo venting filter) is a dust purification device installed on top of storage equipment such as silos and storage tanks. It is mainly used to solve the problem of dust pollution generated during material loading, unloading, and conveying, while ensuring air pressure balance inside the silo.

Its working principle is that the negative pressure generated by the fan draws the dust raised in the silo into the filtration system. The filter bag, as the core filtering component, can trap dust particles and allow clean gas to pass through the filter bag for discharge, thereby achieving the separation of dust and air.

In terms of structure, it usually consists of components such as filter bags, ash cleaning devices, fans, and casings. Filter bags are made of various materials, including polyester and nylon, which can be selected according to the characteristics of the dust. The ash cleaning device can regularly remove the dust accumulated on the filter bags to ensure filtration efficiency, with common methods such as pulse jetting and mechanical vibration.

In the storage system, the silo top filter plays a crucial role. On one hand, it can effectively control dust diffusion, improve the working environment, protect the health of operators, and meet environmental protection requirements. On the other hand, it can prevent dust accumulation in the silo from affecting material storage and transportation, and at the same time maintain stable air pressure inside the silo to avoid equipment damage caused by abnormal air pressure. It is widely used in dust treatment of silos in industries such as grain, feed, chemical industry, and building materials.
